Re: New RIC 4004Cii Special
Spray booth fun! Awesome. My favorite "brown burst" is still the matte Autumnglo with black plastic, but this one is sweet in its own right!

I'm not sure these photos do it justice. Even though Richard shot it with a pretty good Nikon, it's really not showing the smoothness of the burst, just as we've seen in other photos of FireGlo. But the amazing flamey Maple seems to show up well.
Re: New RIC 4004Cii Special
Kind of hard to tell from the pics posted, but it looks as if the deep brown edges hides the walnut sandwich pieces? I would love to see it in person.....
Re: New RIC 4004Cii Special
I really like the finish on this one, compared to the montys i've seen.(which i also like). Having custom pickup placement options would be really cool,too.. Both my 4004's are nonstandard, and i really love the tonal options the laredo/4002 provides. I would love to upgrade the cii with the coil tap options someday. Since you are both here in the same thread together, let me just thank Dane and John again for my FG beauty!

You're welcome Woody. It was a fun excersize in style and function, and I'm glad you appreciate that.

Remember, it's not the tool John! To take it to the next level would require a pro. Many of my clients are furniture makers, cabinet makers, etc., and making wood grain 'pop' like you see it in reality requires secret knowledge.johnhall wrote:I'm not sure these photos do it justice. Flamed grain is the biggest challenge as the 'look' is caused by the motion of the viewer and/or the light source (whether its sky, direct sun, or artificial) against the object. One of those lenticular prints would be the ultimate way to reveal that.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again. The 4004 body is über cool. If Ric offered it w/o pups, routes, or pots, just a bridge, a rear empty cavity, and a small grain matched removable wood cover over the body end of the truss rods, dropped the price and marketed it as a builder/customizeable bass, I believe they could sell ten times as many. The bassist could buy any pup he wished, make his own routes anywhere he wanted to, add a pickquard if desired, wire it as he wished, it would be the ultimate bass for any taste.woodyng wrote:I really like the finish on this one, compared to the montys i've seen.(which i also like). That's a great idea for those of us who love to tinker and mod (count me in) but it would mean RIC giving its product "image" a sort of malleability... rather than the "classic" 4003 and "spinoff" 4004, now you've got a bunch of Frankensteins out their with a semi-official status. Not the greatest business strategy as far as branding, or at least it didn't used to be. Maybe in today's market things have changed... but I doubt it, in the longview.coolhandjjl wrote:I've said it before, and I'll say it again. The 4004 body is über cool. Oh and, backlog. But I'm sure you're aware!
Re: New RIC 4004Cii Special
...in terms of the PU-spacing, I like the 2004 monty brown more, also the couloring seems nicer. What is actually the "one off" speciality of this 2011 4004???

Need one of those with a Jazz Bass pickup spacing
Re: New RIC 4004Cii Special
The paint job. Of course, that's what makes the majority of the "one-offs" different...heinpete wrote:What is actually the "one off" speciality of this 2011 4004???
I have NO idea what to do with those skinny stringed things... I'm just a bass player...
