As I've stated before, this wound up being a very George Harrison year for me. It started off with the George Harrison Duo Jets (relicked tribute and generic signature) from Gretsch. Then, my buddy and I spent an entire Wednesday in May listening to the Wilburys, making it a Wilbury day. In August, before SCARF '11, Living in the Material World is announced. Before I leave to SoCal, I watched Concert for Bangladesh with my mom for its 40th anniversary. While in SoCal in early August, I learn from Norm Harris all about his stories about and dealings with George and what a nice guy George was.

October, I get The Best of Dark Horse 1976-1989 compilation, and Greg Feo posts up beautiful, life-like photos of George's guitar collection in the "Vintage Rics" forum, including George's original 360/12 (OS) making me appreciate my slightly rare Rick-O-Sound 360/12V64 (it, strangely, has been my go-to guitar these days), and adding it to the "absolutely will not sell unless there is a good reason behind it" pile.

November, my copy of Living in the Material World arrives from the UK and my grandma buys me The Dark Horse Years: 1976-1992 box set for Christmas. And to close the year, I'm not only getting the box set, but also planning to watch the Scorsese film with some friends for Christmas eve. What's left? If I managed to get a George Harrison style Gretsch for Christmas, but I seriously doubt that would happen. :P

Anyway, it's hard to believe it's been 10 years. I remember that day fondly, I was in 5th grade, and I heard it on talk radio that George had died. I was so upset, I didn't want to go to school, but I was forced. Really couldn't concentrate, but I do know it was when I heard George died, I decided to play guitar, and I began April 2002, and I haven't looked back.

George is my personal idol, and he has been missed, but his big soul and spirit will live on. Long Live George.

He is missed by many but probably more so by his loving family and personal friends. One of the best. I just can't imagine the Beatles music without George.

Well said Brian. I just think about the first Ed Sullivan appearance when he fingerpicked the solo for "All My Loving"...such power, such precision, and he was less than three weeks from his 21st birthday. RIP George...

Jake, I feel your pain but I also take delight in knowing that the younger generation still feels and lives the magic of the Beatles. I too picked up a guitar some 40 years ago because of the Fab Four. And I too was very upset on that day was well as Dec 8. Time marches on but some things will always seem as though they were yesterday. Music is a gift. Being able to make music is divine.

Following Georges sight of life at this point, I am not happy that he is gone but I am very thankful and impressed what he gave to so much people.

He still will be one of the greates in centuries when the people keep his fire burning. And it does not matter if somebody reminds his name in 500 years. It is important WHAT he said.

I prefer to exchange to be in mourning into to be just thankful. And George showed how to do.
