Good thread. :D

Back to the four guys who restored the bass,,,they seemed concerned about all the "unauthorized" work they had done. Does anyone know what Paul's comments were on the finished product?

I'm sure Paul loved it because he played it for a few more years after that.

Here's Arnquist's recollections, dated probably around 2001, or 2002:

That may be how it still iss, since I haven't see the bass in person for quite awhile. I do seem to recall also, that someone said that they thought the zero-fret had been removed not so long ago.
Thats pretty cool that you saw THE bass in person, the same bass you presented to him in 1965 at the hollywood bowld...even though it was lefty, did you give it a go?
I could be mistaken, but I believe it was John's father, F.C. Hall, who presented the bass to Paul.

IIRC, John has mentioned so on more than one occasion.

Really? Oh, my mistake. Maybe I'm thinking of the prior incident where F.C. attempted to sell it to Paul, who declined to buy it?

I read an account where John C Hall was taken by his father to meet the Beatles in 1965 when they were in California to play the Hollywood Bowl and that the bass was brought to them at house they were staying in.

. . . .which is total baloney. And yes, I was the one who presented it, at age 15.

Maybe it did get replaced. Could I get Mr. Hall to shed some light on this one.

I believe that this picture is from NCM and it is in my closet now. The top picture that is.
Why do you keep the top picture in your closet?

Never mind, probably best not to ask.
Jeff, You may ask, but I may not tell you why. :)

Evidently, there are quite a few stories circulating about how Paul got his Rick, and many are proving false. My apologies once again for perpetuating one of them.
