Ric 4001 Thumb Rest

Post by stts64 »

After a long search I finally found an original thumb rest for my JetGlo 4001. I have never seen one and when it arrived I noticed that one side of it is cut in a straight angle (90 degrees) and the other is angled a bit more. Before installing it I wanted to make sure which side is the top and which is the bottom - square or angled? I really do not have any referance on this and since it is a clear plastic, it is really hard to tell from the photos I have.
I would appreciate your info on this.

Angled side down. Pickguardian makes replicas for $10.00.

BTW, it is properly referred to as a 'Tug Bar' and should be located under the G string. A carry over from when most bassists started out on the double bass and wanted a place to anchor their fingers when they switched to electric. It gradually became basterdized as it migrated to the E string side where folks rested their thumb on it.

Is that like how the original Fenders used to have them?
A place to rest your fingers while you played mainly with your thumb?
