When I was a teenager, John Deacon was not underrated. As far as I could tell, he was looked upon as one the better bassists of his time and music genre. Unfortunately for JD, Queen's heyday ended a long time ago, so he gets forgotten about nowadays.

Deacon's best work is simply sublime...Superbly crafted lines, especially with the mid 70's period when Queen were truly brilliant. "Your My Best Friend" is as good as anything you'll hear from that classic era of melodic bassists.

Criminally underrated.

Now.....Underrated I like!!!!!!!

How about Stu Cook from C.C.R.???? Before I ever heard of a Chris Squire, or a John Entwistle.....I heard Stu.
Creedence was my "First Love" when it comes to music.

Stu was never fast, flashy, or In Your Face......but he WAS a "Bass-Player" and did what the job required. He was solid, right on the money time wise, and, he taught me about that guitar with FOUR big strings---and what it does within a band.

Oh...and at one point....he played a Rick. Of course, I didn't know what THAT was

I nominate Stu Cook for underrated Bassist-----YAY Stu!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The only question about Stu's stuff is how much was played by him and how much by Fogerty?

Are you saying that John recorded their bass lines???? I HAVE suspected that Stu played lines that John wrote out, but, it never occured to me that John could have actually played/recorded them..........

HMMMMMM.......

Personally,I just can't handle Geddy Lee anymore, actually to be fair... RUSH in general.

Before I turned 15 years old I thought they were awesome.

Having said that, I think he is talented, smart, cool, witty, etc. But listening to RUSH after i turned 15 made me feel funny. Well that or the girl from the high school dance.

However the mans contribution to inspire people ripping off perfectly good pickup covers off JetGlos can not be under estimated against the Squire camps Rotosound eating fret days

Cheers

Well since the thread kind of turned into Most Underrated Bassists a few posts ago, do those 3 people count there as well?

Considering that I am a guitar player first...........any mention in this category is kind of amusing. You and Dave however.......being considered most underrated? That's probably a good fit.
