sweet looking bass! I'd call Ric about the saddles - and the pot, maybe it is just a bad solder joint. But talk to Ric about that too. They are really good about things and nice to deal with. but DO let us know what happens with it.

They won't have any MIDs available, but I don't mind another colour. So my next question, my RRF friends: Jetglo or Mapleglo?
It's funny, I have a wonderful MID and I love FG so, normally I'd say get another FG and I'll trade ya but, I love my MID so much. Everything about it is right as far as neck, tone, etc it'd be hard to see it leave my hands.

Glad you have all these issues worked out. In the end you will have your second 4003 of excellence :D

That is not tail lift. This is tail lift:

It's black hardware. It got powder coated and that process made it very weak. Hence the introduction of two more screws, later.

There is an old thread on that. As bad as that looks, I was able to bring it back to near-normal flatness, and it is in use on my 4003S/5 SPC Blackstar:

Gary,

Nice! A 5 string Blackstar! What are the production numbers on those?? That tail lift looked like the tail piece could have doubled for a bottle opener!!

Yup, black hardware coupled with the extra tension of another big fat B string must have been the instant breeding ground for tail lift!

Weird tho, my 1986 built Shadow has the two extra screws in the tail while my 1989 Blackstar does not. Possibly the extra screws were added on my Shadow way after it left the factory but I believe every foto of a Shadow I've seen, it has the extra screws. Blackstars, not so much.

Looks like I'll be getting a JG! The MID should be on its merry UPS way back tomorrow morning. Updates to follow :)

Poor ol' Crooked Blue left on its journey back to Musician's Friend yesterday. The MF folks said they'd send the JG replacement as soon as the return showed in the UPS system, but I haven't received any notification of its departure yet. :(

You might need to remind them of that, as they probably have thousands of customers every day.

I'll probably give them a gentle nudge tomorrow.
