A Vox UL730 amplifier and cabinet used for the Beatles Revolver and Sgt. Pepper recording sessions is set for sale December 15 the London auction house, Bonhams. The amp was only recently discovered to have been used by the Beatles,
“Very few amps used by the Beatles have come to auction before, and to find one that was used on two such significant albums is truly rare and exciting,” said Stephen Maycock, Bonhams Entertainment Memorabilia consultant. “Beatles fans all over the world will be eager to own such an important piece of music history.”

The video is okay, I can do better ones now. But the amp is cool, but not very "voxey." The nice thing about the amp is that at low volumes, it sounds and feels like a 60's solid state amp. You may love it, or hate it. When you use the distortion (which is really a fuzz circuit resembling a fuzz face, kind of....) you get a classic 60's buzz and fuzz. That is probably what was used on Paperback Writer in my opinion. When you crank the amp up to about 5, you engage the power tubes and get a tone very very similar to "She Said" or "Rain" in my opinion. This type of distotion is different than a Vox AC 30 in ways that are hard to describe. If I have time, I may do another 730 video, because I'm selling this to one of my best friends, so it won't be around much longer...

R. G. Keen from Geofex and the BG Forum was working on duplicating the solid state preamp that was in these amps, but I am not sure where that project ended up. I was very interested in buying some boards or kits if he was going to have some available as they could be built into amps to duplicate that sound. I always liked the sound of those Vox hybrid amps. I should get in touch with him and see what became of it.
