I'm much happier about this than any of the season's holidays. I never realized how much more drastic the change is up north here, compared to Florida... and to think, I'm still technically in "the south!" It gets dark by 5pm, what the heck is that??? I know... it's worse further north, I'm sure several of you will chime in about that and tell me to shut my hole!

When our daughter was at AU in DC, I was amazed at how early it got dark. I live more north, but am physically in the Central time zone but our time is Eastern, so we get dark by 6pm, not 5 pm. In the summer during DST, we stay light till 10:30 pm.

My brother lives in Seattle and the extreme difference in length of days would drive me bonkers. ... well, too late. More bonkers.

I noticed that difference between Lawrence KS (38.97°N.) and Salem, OR (44°57' N.) There the sunsets lingered longer in the summer time. Here, the sun sets over the prairie horizon, and it's like some one just shuts off the lights.

Now that's a lot to keep straight!

Only time it causes a problem is when we are watching a PPV on DirectTV and it is going to end at the same time our 24 hour window is supposed to close. It closes one hour early, because the satellite thinks we are Central time. Guess how I know that? Otherwise, the line between CST and EST jogs at the Indiana/Michigan west and continues up the middle of Lake Michigan and we live on Eastern time, keeping all of Lower Michigan and almost all of Upper Michigan in the same time zone.
