Installed a horseshoe on my '73
Just installed a horseshoe pickup on my '73. Wow. A much fuller sound than the original pickup, that died last week (probably needs a rewind). An unexpected upgrade to the old workhorse. It also looks very cool.

They ARE great, aren't they?
I installed one in my '74, put some d'addario super bright 105 on it, and it's so hot now the devil called if he could have it.

I've been thinking about buying one of those to put in my 94 JG. I really like the look, especially the
larger surround. I used to have a V63 that had the horse shoes removed, sounded tremendous.

Ilan, could you post a picture of that area of the bass? I have a '73 with a bridge pick-up mod that I plan on correcting with a HS:
and it may help me see whether it will cover the area that needs covering.

Nice Ilan!
I have one(RIHS) waiting for a project someday.

What the hell is wrong with people? Not bad enough to but a jazz PU in, but how much extra work was involved in routing it in slanted like that? ...and on a nice checkerboard Fireglo, geeezdoctorwho wrote:Ilan, could you post a picture of that area of the bass? A skilled luthier can make that route disappear.

Lookin' sharp Ilan!
I would be curious to hear your thoughts on the new HS versus the Higain in your '86. I have been considering dropping a horsey into my v68 but am a bit fearful that it will change it "for the clankier".

A skilled luthier should make who ever did the mod disappearilan wrote:A skilled luthier can make that route disappear.
Re: Installed a horseshoe on my '73
Actually the high-gain had more clank. The horseshoe sounds fuller and more bassy than the high-gain. Now I can solo it and get a solid usable sound, something I never did with the original pickup. Output is about the same, which surprised me. Actually it sounds closer to the high-gain in my son's '86 (which is one of the best sounding Rics I have ever played). If I want a clanky treble pickup I have my Shadow.

How about doing this to a '72 with one of the screw holes going through to the back of the body?
