My name is Brother Firefingers, and I am a Ric addict...

Post by Brother Firefingers »

New member introduction...

Tim Rose here, aka Brother Firefingers. Just joined and want to give an official "hello" to all my brothers in spirit here. Yes, I'm a Rickenbacker madman too... caught it from Geddy Lee over 25 years ago and haven't been able to shake it.

Some have come and gone over the years, but I still have five keepers:

-1973 Rickenbacker 4001 bass, Mapleglo, checkered binding
-1973 Rickenbacker 4001 bass, Jetglo
-1974 Rickenbacker 4001 bass, Jetglo w/black pick guard
-1975 Rickenbacker 4001 bass, Mapleglo
-1975 Rickenbacker 4001 bass, Burgandyglo

I'm also a huge Music Man fan... anyone who hasn't played an older Sting Ray should... between Rics and MM's a guy doesn't need to look much further.

Have a few older 70's Fenders too, along with two old early 80's San Dimas Charvels (Explorer and Star), and an old '81 Dean ML.

If I had to be buried with one, it would be a Ric. They're magic.

Geddy Lee inspired me to learn to play... learned many RUSH songs note-by-note back then, and still remember most... Natural Science is the hardest workout I know. Other player influences include Steve Harris, Billy Sheehan, Rudy Sarzo, Roger Waters, and John Paul Jones. And of course, my pal Jaco... what a lost soul.

Salute!

Welcome TIm!

We love pics. Hint hint.

Would also love to hear what Music Man basses you play. I love my 4003 but my '10 Classic Stingray is pretty freakin' good too. :)

Welcome to the RRF! That's a great spread of Rick basses!
There is no reason to ever be bored.

...why yes, I suppose I do have a double bound guitar fetish...

Heh heh! I'll post some pics.

I added a "signature" and listed my 'Rays... they're great basses. I prefer the older "Classic" style with the 2-band EQ and bullet truss rod, when I can find one and have any money to spend...

Thanks for the great welcome, you guys. Obviously a great forum.

Howdy,

The early one is an MD s/n (April, 1973) and has checkerboard binding and a toaster neck pickup. The later one is an MK s/n (November, 1973) and has standard binding and a regular neck pickup

I used to have a July (a friend of mine has it, now), and currently have a March '73 4001. Both have great feeling necks, and both have CB and toaster, the March has FWI and the old cast bridge, too. 8)

Jeff,

I was in Sam Ash today and happened upon the most exquisitely beautiful fireglo Ric bass I've ever seen. It's under glass just to the right of the guitar desk. Have you seen or played it? 8)
