Thanks, Youtube!

Post by woodyng »

Just listened to yes live at MSG in 1974 doing "the remembering"!
And it wasn't a bad recording, either. It was really great to hear a live rendition of this again!
The poster has all of the TFTO concert posted, but this cycle was always my favorite.

I... remember :) that I used this recording to help me learning the bass parts. It is indeed a very good audience recording considering it's more than 30 years ago. Rick Wakeman's keyboards sounded so good - ironic that he supposedly didn't like so much what he was playing...

We are using this bootleg as a template for our stage version of TFTO.
I reckon its going to take most of 2012 to get it all ready for shows.
The album has parts that were played on different instruments (guitar mainly) than the live show so this is a good guide to how it went on tour.
I remember (no pun intended) watching Chris swap from the Guild fretless to his Rick on this track but without asking him or seeing footage you cant really make an accurate assessment of who played what guitar on which bit.

I am going for a fretless Jazz like Miguel uses as the Guild isnt that easy to get hold of as a fretless that is.
We do only the stage versions of Yes and getting good Topographic recordings is difficult to say the least.
Its worth bearing in mind that when I spoke to Eddie Offord after the show he said they recorded all the gigs so somewhere there must be reels of live TFTO shows!
Difficulty is how do you ask members of Yes anything?
Its easier to get an audience with the Pope than getting in touch with Yes!

I was always sorry that Yes did not film one of the shows from this tour for a proper release. It was the first time I saw them live and I remember every note. The show started late and I can recall techs crawling all over the speaker stacks looking for a loose connection in the PA before they finally came out. Then, SK, AYAI, CTTE and TFTO were performed in their entirety. There was a long break and most fans finally started to filter out before they came back on to perform Roundabout as the encore. I was thirteen and could have sat through another two hours, hoping that they would continue, but my brother George explained things to me about how concerts worked and such.

Funny thing is, that show was February 21st, 1974, my other brother's birthday. 36 years later to the day, I drove up to Cleveland and took the same brother back to see Yes at the HOB. I one-up'd him by getting him backstage to meet the band. That's my brother George with Chris. Later that year I took my brother Tom to meet them at a show near Pittsburgh.

These guys are getting to be like family!

thanks for posting the link,Mark! apparently these were on youtube once before, then removed by youtube, and relisted around December 28. I had never come across this on youtube before last week, and it was like a Christmas present from the ether (or internet if you prefer :P ) to be able to hear this again. I did get to see Yes perform this in Memphis, but of course that was a long time ago.....

Side 3 from the same channel, I think it's equally worth a listen... outstanding performance... there should have been a film from this tour!

How 'bout this:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CmdVkKYE ... re=related

The entire concert from Detroit, exact setlist as I mentioned above....
Update - Just listened to the entire concert while "working", can't believe, this was one week after I saw them in '74 and the same show. Bootleg quality recording, but a great memory preserved nonetheless...

Then I noticed he had a complete recording of the Solos Tour / Relayer 1976! :)

Listening to it, now! 8)

I first saw them a few months later, in November, when they started doing the Relayer tour.
