Keywind replacement ??

Post by RonLovesRic12strings »

I'm looking to replace the RIC vintage deluxe keywinds on my 1998, 360 V64 six-string. Which do I order, #00564 (Short S) or #00565 (Long SE)? My existing keywinds have an annoying amount of "play" or sloppiness when tuning.

As I understand it the 6 pc. long shafted set is paired with a 6 pc. short shafted set to complete a 12 pc. set for a 12 string. The long shafts are mounted on the side and reach toward the middle of the headstock. I think you want the short set.

Oddly, on my '70s 370/12, the tuners are paired the other way around, with the longer ones coming up through the headstock, and the shorter ones in the slots. I tried things the other way around, and the holes in the slotted part of the headstock were too shallow and kept the tuners from screwing down completely; at the same time the headstock was thick enough that the shorter tuners didn't reach through far enough.

Confusing.
