Techs in Western Canada
Does anyone have any suggestions on anywhere I can bring my bass to have a bit of work done on it? I live in Calgary, Alberta - traveling is more than a little difficult, so it'd be great if by some bizarre chance someone had a person they could endorse in this city!
Cheers,

Re: Techs in Western Canada
Check out Long and McQuades, they normally outsource their techs, I ask a local vintage guitar store here in Victoria,BC who they would recommend for Rickenbackers and I was very satisfied with their choice.

Yeah, there is a Long and Mcquade here, but I feel a little trepidatious about bring it there. I worry about bringing it somewhere where countless guitars cross a guys work bench every day, and that maybe the guy doesn't really pay my bass the attention it deserves. Maybe he doesn't lay a cloth down when he rests his screw driver on the instrument. Or maybe he's not as invested and really wants to get to the pile of Fender Squires he has waiting for a string change and doesn't take the time to slowly adjust the truss rods and does a full turn at once or something.
You know? Or am I totally crazy?

My advice is go in and talk to the guitar tech at L&M. If he has little or no experience (ask him a few obvious questions) it will become readily apparent during discussion. You will also find out how busy he is doing mindless work on cheap instruments.
If I lived closer I would offer to help, but shipping back and forth here in Canada is a costly enough venture.

Hey,
Did you find a good tech in Calgary in the end? I've just moved here (well, been here a few months) and now my Rick has had chance to get used to the temperature and humidity I'm looking to treat her to a pro set-up.

I take it to a guy named Darrell. I've been impressed enough with his work, but you may be able to find someone better. I just couldn't in the timeline, and now I've got a bit of a relationship.
