Re: Tak Matsumoto Custom Double Cut Ebony
There have been so many Taks from Gibson and Epi over the years, and most of them cost more than a Rick...this one has more appeal than most LPs to (to me), and the reason is the Rick-like cutaways. This one starts at $1300.00, I've been told, which, if it's true, would be terrific value. But is it "ebony" or just "black", considering that Gibson's using synthetics for its fretboards lately?

Paul, the ebony refers to the colour of the guitar, not the fingerboard, in Gibsonish - it could've been a "Tak Matsumoto Custom Double Cut Goldtop" if the top was gold... anyway, the fingerboard on this one is ebony. Don't ask me where they got it... I doubt it's like the brazilian rosewood growing as garden escapees is Florida and California.
WIth synthetics you mean thekitchentops Richlite? I suspect we'll be seeing more of the double veneer rosewood fingerboards soon. I've seen the results of the scientific comparisons of rosewood and other tone woods. Funny how there is indeed a difference, although only your dog might hear the difference, or maybe a baby

That's what I was hinting at...that way, you can promote ebony without actually having any...Wildberry wrote:Paul, the ebony refers to the colour of the guitar, not the fingerboard, in Gibsonish

Yeah, there's some shrinkage... they're working on it. The idea was: these metal people lick the binding, let's make it extra yummie! As for the fingerboard, they wanted to provide an extra bite to the guitarbitzerguy wrote:They kind of missed on the binding on that test biscuit though...
