1989 4001v63 - Pull the trigger?

Post by ronaldpdbrandt »

Hi, I'm new to the forum. I currently have a beautifully banged-up 1981 4003 FG, which I love to death.

However...

I've got line on a 1989 4001v63 MG. I always wanted a MG, and this seems like it's right up my alley. It's only got a few nicks (apparently--I've yet to see it in person), and the guy wants $1850 for it.

Calling on the expert hagglers and RICsperts of this forum, I'd like to know what would be a reasonable opening offer. Any thoughts? I've never been all that good at bargaining, to be honest. I always feel like I could have done better.

Thanks in advance!

Honestly, $1,850 sounds like a fair price to me. Others may have a different opinion, though.

Sounds like a fair price to me.

The early V63s have the desirable longer headstock, which was shortened slightly in the mid-'90s.

Well, the guy called just now, and I wasn't really expecting him to call so soon! I blurted out $1500, he said $1600, and we made a deal! He's delivering it tomorrow morning...hoo boy, I'm pumped!

Anybody in the market for a 1981 4003?

The '89's also had the more "correct" looking bridge pickup surround as well. $1600.00 is a very good deal.

Since you got such a great deal, you can pass the bargain along to an nice (in my opinion  ) kid who wants a Rick bass but has limited funds. We all know who that it, right?

Yes, quite a steal! You did very, very well at that price.
