At Long Last - A Fireglo 4003

Post by Who's Who »

Hi Guys

Just wanted to say I've just become the very proud owner of a brand new Fireglo 4003, and I am over the moon.

(a little bit if boring history)
Ever since I was a young Mod growing up I always wanted a Rickenbacker. Just about every 60's bass player I adored played one.
Paul McCartney, John Entwistle , Pete Quaife, Bruce Foxton (yes I know The Jam were 70's).
Obviously growing up I could never afford one, and so my lust continued.

Once I was older and working I began to play slightly better quality instruments, but still never thought I could justify buying a Rickenbacker.
Then in 2008 (with a bit of persuading the Mrs) I decided to go out and buy myself a Rickenbacker. I had not been this excited since riding my first Vespa!
Without doubt my favourite colour has always been Fireglo. There's never been any question about it, for me the ONLY Ric colour to get was Fireglo. I just couldn't believe how amazing Fireglo 4003's looked, and finally I was going to own one.

Then came the realisation that Ric's were incredibly hard to find. I searched just about every online Guitar shop but could not find a Ric bass in stock. Everyone was quoting over a year's wait, which I just couldn't cope with.
Then a friend from work informed me 'Peter Cook's Guitar World' in West London had a few 4003's in stock.
Only catch was they only had Blueburst! So I got the train over there, Credit Card in hand, and came home the proud owner of Blueburst 4003.

Now don't get me wrong, Blueburst is a gorgeous finish, but it just wasn't Fireglo. I wanted a Ric so bad I bought it anyway, but always in the back of my mind I wished I had a Fireglo model!

Yesterday I sold my Blueburst Ric to a very nice French guy who was in London for a few days.
And at last (with a little extra cash) I now have the bass of my dreams, a Fireglo Rickenbacker 4003. It's everything I hoped it would be and more, I just feel invincible when playing it, and this one will never leave me.

Sorry to bang on with a boring story, but I really am so excited about this bass and I'm looking forward to many happy years together. I'll post some pics soon.

When our band now play live we have a Fireglo Rickenbacker 4003, a Natural Fender Telecaster and a Cherry Gibson ES-335 up on stage together. A match made in heaven. :D

Cheers Steve, it was on there quite some time.
I also managed to sell a little amp I wasn't using recently too, so with that and the money from my BB Ric, it only cost me another £125 8)
