Saw this on evilbay a few days ago. Just want to ask if anyone has tried one and what were the results. It looks good.

Bone Nut

Re: Bone Nut
my close friend, bandmate, and guitar-fixer (don't call him no luthier!) always replaced every nut on every bass i kept with bone.(and more recently deer antler,a similar material) He basically said it was better than plastic for tone. it may be that he was right,or it may be just a very slight difference, but i still have 3 of my basses set up that way,and they sound great. i say try this one out,it's nice that it's already cut for a RIC.
Re: Bone Nut
Agreed that a bone nut is good, but I'm dubious that you can buy a pre-slotted, finished nut and expect it to be just right for your bass. There are variations in nut width, height, slot depth, string spacing, etc., that can be subtle but important. It's best to buy a properly-sized blank (meaning, over-sized), and slot and finish it yourself or have a luthier do it.

He must play a large number of open notes.woodyng wrote:He basically said it was better than plastic for tone.
I don't strictly avoid open notes, although I mainly use them in pedal situations or in a pinch when doing large intervallic leaps. As far as nuts go, I hope for a material that will give a timbre that most closely resembles that of stopped notes.
Can we have everything louder than everything else?
