....or is this forum dominated by bassists or bassist wannabe's(me)??....

When you look at the tremendous amount of posts in the bass section....geeesh! ...or are the guitarist just laying low, just under the radar ?...

I was just wondering why that might be....

I also know that I'm opening myself up for vicious counterattacks by the smart-alecks among us...

Chris: One of the most sought after and successful instruments in my view is the Rickenbacker bass. I am not at all surprised. I am a guitarist and I couldn't resist a RIC bass. In two words, tonality and playability.

Mr Pappas, I think you are an individual of dicerning taste, and sound judgement, after all you play a Rickenbacker.

I tend to agree that the Bassists here are a lot more active, there again we are playing one of the finest instruments in the world, thank the gods there's no such thing as a "Mexi-Rick", or a "Japo-Rick" ...

We tend to be more easy going than some of our other musical brothers and sisters, and the "prima donna" quotient tends to be less of an issue among bassists, there again mess with my Rick and I'll kill you, nice and simple ...

Ric basses are the coolest ... the guitars are good but don't measure up to the Ric bass ...

Obviously we are an opinionated bunch. I believe that everyone here has probably had to defend their Rick purchase to either an uneducated guitarist or a grizzled, old, ******-off sound guy.
Then on the other hand there is the experience of getting off stage & and having somebody say "Cool bass man!" No offense to Fender & Gibson (I own one of each), but there is generally a "yawn" quotient associated with both of those.
Rick basses are beyond special & each have their own unique character. It takes a special person to play a Rick.

Nonsense. The Ric electric 12 string is the definitive 12 string. It's the gold standard for that particular class of instrument. Is the Ric bass the best electric bass of all? Perhaps, but depends on who you ask.

I agree with you, Mike d.

Nobody could possibly claim that they're more popular than the basses, however.

When it comes to Rics, it's the "4001 & all the rest"

I must admit, IMHO the Rick basses have a mystique that I don't see in the guitars. Of course I don't see a mystique in any guitar. I have two Rick basses, one Rick guitar, and I play guitar in my band (five years now, though I have played bass in previous bands). If I were to get into a new band, I might choose to play bass again.
But to the question at hand...bassists have fewer strings to play, so they have more time on their hands, hence the multitude of posting!

Name a great bassist who has played a ric bass after 1970 ... quite a few ... the ric bass is still producing a cutting edge tone ...

name a great guitarist who has played a ric guitar after 1970 ... not too many ... the ric guitars are known for their retro jangley 60's sound ... like Beatles, Byrds, etc ...
