Oops i installed it again (Bigsby B5)

Post by Medicus1963 »

Hello Friends,

so i did it again and installed a Bigsby on my 325C58. Hurts a little bit when i drilled the holes in the guitar !
But the Bigsby works well, and the sound imroves a lot.
What do you think of it ?

Greetings Peter

hi collin,
not only in the name of john lennon !
The Kaufmann is nearly useless for me. with the Bigsby it works better ! o.k. the bowtie bridge is only for better looking, but this i can change if i want, but intonation is perfect, so why should i ?
so you know why i did it ! By the way, Burns Knobs on a maple glow 325 is NOT John Lennon, but i like it !

so what is the opinion of the others ?

John Lennon or not, I think this is one of the only times I like a B5 on a Ric. Can't stand the look on 330's.

Looks good, I'm sure it sounds good as well!
Great Ramp In My Opinion.

Yes Thomas, it really sounds better ! i think the additional weigth gives more sustain, and i can hear this !
so it looks good and sounds good !

It does look good! But more importantly, if it gets you the sound you like and inspires you to play more and create more, then you HAVE to do it. These are musical instruments meant to sing and play and be heard. If adding a Bigsby mod to your Ric, whatever the vintage, gets you your tone, then it is a good mod.

"irreversible mods"

So?? I dunno about the original poster, but I certainly wouldn't be worrying about a mods effect on resale value because my guitars are following me to my grave... !

At least he didn't try to put a Floyd Rose on it or something. Bigsby is miles beyond the Kauffman as a vibrato unit.

I stand by what I said--- despite owner's intentions, owners change and the guitars are here forever.

Plus a Bigsby is a weak argument with Rics over the Kaufman because the Accent vibrato works great and leaves no trace should anybody decide to remove it.

Let's face it, had John Lennon not drilled his guitar for a Bigsby, there would be a whole lot less 325s out there with an aftermarket Bigsby vibrato screwed on. ;)

Collin,
Yes its good to have different opinions, and i asked for opinions not for applause ! I know that the Accent works great as i have a 325V63 with it. But the Bigsby looks better on the mapleglo in my opinion.

Greetings

If Lennon didn't play a 325, there would be no reissues to modify!

Looks great! Now get a Phillips screw on that vibrato arm! ;)

I never even used the Bigsby on my 325s....but I loved the look, and yeah, liked the idea of keeping the guitar in tune. Yours looks great! Nice job.
