UK refinishing

This is primarily for UK people but please feel me to chime in with your comments people.

To start with I love the sound of my Rics. I have an immaculate 4003 FG which is a 1999 and Ive had it from new. I also have a 4001 e bay in JG and it sounds great. It has issues however and these I can sort out after reading thru the board for advice. The back of the bridge is lifting 3 or 4mm and I am going to drill it and put a couple of screws through as someone suggests( I cant remember who but I think it was Jeff)

However it is important to know your limitations, and wood and I dont get on! Therefore I need to find someone who can refinish the 4001 unless it can be helped. The front of the guitar is greasey and I cant get it to clean off, and I dont want to use anything too agressive on it.. Also its thru the laquer where my left wrist comes over the front (im left handed) and the back of the neck is also thru the laquer obviously just thru playing. It has been refinished before I think as it looks like the binding has been masked off before. I really like stuff to look immaculate so I want to strip it all the way back , fill the knocks and scratches and get it refinished.

So I suppose what Im asking is does anyone have any ideas on how an inept woodworker such as I could try to salvage the finish, and should that not work does anyone know of a good refinisher in the UK. I appear to be rambling so I will leave it at that.

Rob Williams has an excellent reputation and before I found a team to refinish my Ric in Scotland, that's where I was headed.

I know of a guy whose Basses I have seen were excellent (he did some stuff for The Specials) and his name is John and he's at Noiseworx in Coventry - even if you don't use him he's worth talking to to see what advice he can give if you were to do the job yourself.
