... for saving me a lot of money. My customized 8 string still rules.

Nice! I've always wanted to do an 8 string conversion on a Ric. Must sound wicked.

Dane is the man to talk to about the conversion.

He has every detail worked out. 8)

Do those things have a one-piece neck?

I think so. Two piece necks started in 2009 didn't they? Unless were talking a 4008 which would of had the skunk stripe.

Yeah me and him had a back and forth when I used to frequent the forums years ago. I had just gotten my first Ric and wanted to get another one to do a conversion on. Maybe it's time I revive those plans. I was contemplating picking up a 4003 in FG around Christmas time. That might make a nice looking 8 string 8)

Nice one! Good job, Dane! :)
There is no reason to ever be bored.

...why yes, I suppose I do have a double bound guitar fetish...

She's a stunner; a heart-stopper. Excuse my newbie-ness, but can you fill me in re: Dane Wilder, please? Whoa, love the 8.
Rics ... and some other stuff....

Correct me if I am wrong, but I think this is a bit misleading in the sense that the bass in the ad is a regular Rick 8 string bass. Dane does a potato head version IIRC. But he does do great work never the less.

Maybe Dane will chime in here with a photo or two of his work. :D

The bass in the link is not mine. It's a factory one that place is auctioning. I was attempting (and failing miserably in the process) to point out that I would have to pay at least 4 grand for an 8 string Rick and it was cheaper to just buy a 4003, send it to Dane and have it converted into an 8 string and save at least a grand.

This is the Dane Wilder-customized 8 string that I will be buried with:

+1
Dane does a great job!
As far as the 4003S/8 in the link goes, I know these hold a high value, especially if they are in nice condition, but that one is overpriced.
