Note to self: Remember all the remarks about banjos if ever one of these numpties asks you to provide a banjo track.

For anyone that doesn't like bagpipes: you probably have not heard a really excellent bagpipe player; there's an ethereal nature to the drone which -- especially when played by a master -- evokes some qualities of the sitar.

Just kidding about banjos and pipes. I actually have a banjo and wouldn't dream of stomping on it. As for bagpipes, yes, they can be great in the right circumstances and with the right player/music. My favorite type, though not the kind most people think of, are the Irish Uilleann pipes...DriftSpace wrote:For anyone that doesn't like bagpipes: you probably have not heard a really excellent bagpipe player; there's an ethereal nature to the drone which -- especially when played by a master -- evokes some qualities of the sitar.

I also am a big fan of uilleann pipes. A much more pleasant tone than bagpipes, IMHO.

One summer at the condo we rent an owner and his nephew would go to the park next door and pipe the sun down. Very nice.DriftSpace wrote:For anyone that doesn't like bagpipes: you probably have not heard a really excellent bagpipe player; there's an ethereal nature to the drone which -- especially when played by a master -- evokes some qualities of the sitar.

I keep thinking of a rare foggy and chilly morning on the prairie, and hearing a master piper play as the sun rises and slowly burns away the fog, a haunting and ancient Scottish air.

I guess I'll have to settle for whiskey...

It's funny, Scots folk don't call it scotch, most call it whiskey as well....DriftSpace wrote:Why don't I have any scotch in this damned house?!jimk wrote:I keep thinking of a rare foggy and chilly morning on the prairie, and hearing a master piper play as the sun rises and slowly burns away the fog, a haunting and ancient Scottish air.
