The best live records/cd's

Yes indeed! I was wondering if anyone was going to mention that. That to me is the true test of a musical format - is it large enough for certain tasks. CDs don't work quite as well. And as for MP3s....well I don't think that is possible.

Bill, I like live albums much better too. I like the Humble Pie live album too, forgot the name of it. I also like early 60's and 50's stuff, a lot of it was essentially live even though it was recoreded in a studio, even the early Beatles stuff has that live, fresh quality.
I like the Beatle stuff live on The Ed Sullivan show, also The Hollywood bowl, Ringo could really hit in those days and those guys were tight as a drum. Anyone who doesn't think The Beatles could stand up to bands nowadays needs to listen to the stuff they did (live and studio) while they were still fresh from playing live all the time, they were killer, had more energy than most bands do now. They could really rock.

The late greats Steve Marriott & Greg Ridley at their finest hour. Ridley was a way underrated bassist & singer.

The wrong guy from Humble Pie became the superstar if ya ask me!

He wasn't that bad. That double album probably saw some of the most illeagalities of the '70s.

That live Beatles stuff was great but it's a shame you can't get a good mix of those Sullivan shows. 'Twas the times I guess.

Actually, I like Ashlee Simpson "live".

By the way, I bought "pulse" on CD when it came out, and it finally stopped "pulsing" about a year ago.

That one too. I even have it. Dunno how I forgot it.

My absolute fave live Floyd is the _real_ old 1.0 stuff with Syd.
There's a bunch of it floating around the net.

"Have You Got It Yet?" Vols 1-?

I bought "Piper at the Gates if Dawn" when it first came out....
Mono even.

My "Pulse" is VHS with no LED. Amazing yours lasted that long.

It's supposed to be re-issued on DVD sometime soon.

Claude, do you HAVE "Have you got it yet?" I've never heard that song. I've heard stories about how Syd changed it every time they did a take. I do have Vegetable Man and Scream thy last Scream....if it's anything along those lines, it would be interesting to hear.
I have a concert from the Pulse tour on VHS, I believe it is Earl's Court 1994. VERY nice show.

I like everything that has been mentioned. I'd like to add Les Claypool's Frog Brigade. They do an outstanding live version of Pink Floyd's "Animals' album.

Oh yeah, that newly released 72-73 Led zep double album is great too. How The West Was Won. I had good mixes of the Ed Sullivan show stuff, i got them from a video of the shows but lost the tape I made. I thought they sounded great. I prefer mic recordings over board recordings myself, a little mic is ok for body but I want to hear the crowd ambience and see what the bands sounded like live from their amps in the air. With Get your Ya Ya's Out, you are there.

Recording techniques..live or in the studio.. that can make you feel like " you are there" are what I enjoy these days. Ya Ya's is great. There are 3 or 4 songs on Neil Young's "Bluenote" album that capture that feeling in the studio.
