I see the 4004L and the 4004 Cii on the site but very hard to find in a store. I got lucky and actually saw a red Cii a few months back. played and sounded great but the color and the gold hardware was awful...I also didnt have the money for it then. I came into a few bucks and can get one now :)

I dont like used stuff so I guess I'll go to my local dealer and just order one up....

thanks

In my opinion I'd go for a Laredo. I always get grief when I say this but of the multiple Cii's that I've owned they have all sounded muddy in comparison to the Laredos that I've owned. Plus, none of the quick wearing gold hardware AND a touch cheaper as a bonus.

I have been communication with Pick of the Ricks today and based on that I will be going with the Laredo. the Laredo, has a finished neck ( I am assuming like my 4003) and chrome hardware and comes as Jetglo....

I saw a Red Cii and the gold hardware was hideous looking.

250 bucks less is fine. I figured it was going to be $1942 like the Cii I saw so it wont sting as much.I know its only a few hundred bucks but I only paid $900 for the 4003 and the thought of paying 2 grand for a bass I cant even play that well is difficult to justify. but I want it and you only live once

I'm a ham-handed hack and have displayed my lack of skills on some pretty awesome and expensive Rics over the years. A nice sounding and playing bass will only make you want to play more and that's always a good thing.

My LK is currently my only Ric with gold hardware and it has seen plenty of gig/noodling time and while the LK (and Ci) pulls off the gold hardware nicely the gold finish looks beat in short order. I have come to accept it and actually think the worn hardware makes it look kinda badass (IMO).

Brian.

I was wondering why the P/u on yours looks like its butt up against the neck and the ones on the Rickenbacker site look like that are an inch or 2 below that ??

The pickup placement shown on RIC's site is the interim position. Originally they were placed as pictured on my Laredo then they went to the placement shon on the site and they switched back to the original layout when it was found that removing the truss rods was an issue with the pickups placed away from the neck. I actually prefer the current placement anyway o I hope they keep it as is.

The pickups in the "lowered" position were on 4004 basses in the 1999-2004 time frame.

After seeing all of the errors in my last few posts I realize that I really shouldn't post from my iPhone on the fly. :x
