Kathleen Edwards (Colin Cripps) - Great slide 360/12

Post by tamere »

Hi guys,

I have really enjoyed this performance, I thought I would share it with all the Rickenbacker lovers and upload it on my youtube channel.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qfmOKurgPbc

This performance has one of my favorite use of an electric 12 string, a tasteful and original approach with the metal slide providing the main melodic hook for the song.Colin Cripps plays his Rickenbacker 360/12 fingerstyle and alternates between fingerpicking arpeggios and slide guitar, truly great playing.Kathleen's guitar is a Gibson Southern Jumbo, Colin Cripps uses a Fireglo Rickenbacker 360/12 with toaster pickups, delay, maybe compression, through VOX AC-30.

It's a 67 fg 360 12....

Colin is from my hometown of Hamilton and like Bill Dillon is a local guitar hero / producer... Ironically Kathleen Edwards toured through Hamilton just last week - although she no longer works with Cripps...

Cripps loves vintage guitars and owns a 1955 Martin D18 that was owned by Johnny Cash in the late ‘50′s...

Are you sure Colin is playing a 12'er? Looks and sounds like a 360/6 to me. I'd think it would be difficult to play slide on a 12-string. Anyway, I'll have to give it another view. :D

Hmmm... I found an article on line that said he owns a 67 fg 360 12. I didn't think to check the video - i just assumed it was the same guitar!

Well, nobody's said this yet, but I think the song/performance is excellent on the vid. And the Rick is tastefully being put to good use. Thanks for posting this.
It's a Byrd, it's a playin'..........

To my eyes and ears, this is a 12. In the very last part of the outro solo, you can see the slots in the headstock and the horzontal string posts. The last chord definitely has 12 jangle in it. IMO. Cool tune and technique. This is a style of playing I am working on with my 660/12 . 8) 8)

Now there's something I never would have thought of....slide on a Rick 12. Pretty cool sound.

Not much jangle there, but I'm willing to concede that Colin might be playing his 360/12. On second viewing, I think there's one shot from behind where the guitar looks like a 6-string, and one shot from at an angle where I think I can see the extra tuners. But I would have expected a slide on a 12-string to sound quite different. Interesting find. Thanks for sharing it with us! 8)

Not much jangle through the tune, for sure. Until the last big finale strum, then it seems to be that jangle we all love to hear.
