New lefty

Post by Carlos13 »

I joined the forum recently, I'm a new bass player, left handed. I didn't know much about bass guitars but just after I started, I came across a video of a guy playing a Band of Horses track on a Fireglo 4003 on Youtube and thought it was the most beautiful sounding, beautiful looking man made object I'd ever seen. I searched around and quickly discovered the dearth of left handed instuments, which obviously made me covet one even more. After a few weeks I got lucky and grabbed one, a 1978 Jetglo 4001. It was kindly and professionally setup for me by Robbie Bryan at Rickysounds, a UK specialist not too far from me.

I seem to have a bit of a problem with wanting to collect things, and I decided at that point that I'd like to own 3. A Mapleglo, Fireglo and Jetglo. I have not yet informed my wife of this. Anyway soon after, another Jetglo popped up on eBay here in the UK and I grabbed it. It's a 2008 Jetglo 4003. Must be one of the last lefties I guess. I figure given the scarcity, these things are worth more than money. In the meantime, I'm lucky enough to be able to continue my journey into learning bass guitar with two of these things, and enjoy the differences between them. Eventually I will probably try and swap one of them for a Mapleglo or Fireglo.

Anyway, apologies for the rambling introduction. Neither guitar was on the register, but they are now. I can't really contribute so much at the moment because I know nothing, but I'll probably be asking questions :)

Those are great, and the iPhone shot is really nice! You are lucky! Lefty's also get vintage TRC's as a standard. Enjoy the instruments!

Is the pickup cover off the 2008 in the last picture, or is it one of those spacer-things? Just curious...

Oh, and welcome, nice basses you got there...the '78 reminds me of a '79 JG I used to own.

When I bought the 4003 it had a black pickguard, Perspex treble pickup surround and no pickup cover fitted. It came with the original parts except the surround, so I bought one and reverted it to standard.
