V63 vs C64
sorry guys, I'm sure this has been covered a billion times before BUT - I'm starting to seriously consider the purchase of one of these, unless I find an older beat up fireglo 4000 first!
I'm leaning towards the V63 version, as it just seems to LOOK better for the most part. shape seems more accurate or something, not exactly sure, but they seem to just to do it for me more. I'm talking fireglo versions here.
is there any reason I should not go for the V63, are there any drawbacks to this version? is the one piece neck an issue in anyone's experience?

Not all v63's are created equal. The late 90's once are nice for sure, but they have stubbier headstocks, chunkier necks, and the pickup surrounds don't look quite right.
I had a 1993 v63 that was just to die for, despite the fact that it had been poorly refretted. I miss that bass like hell - one of the moderators here now owns it.

By contrast, I owned two c64s and I don't miss either one at all.
Re: V63 vs C64
interesting - the wear around the edge of that 4000 looks like binding. yeah that is a cool,road-worn bass. For esthetics alone,i prefer the "correct" v63 to the c64,myself. i did have a 92 mg v63 for about 2 months before i resold it-when it came down to having to choose between it and my cii and 4000, it lost. if you can find a 4000, i would go for that,i think the 3 piece necks on those were pretty consistent throughout the time they were made. (and a good size/shape)

Re: V63 vs C64
Must agree that an old 4000 would trump all - and certainly would for me as well. Especially a white one.
Re: V63 vs C64
Selling this if you can collect from England....................
Its on ebay at the moment.
The early CS also has more vintage accurate features like the headstock and pickup surround.
This one is a 91

Re: V63 vs C64
I'd take Pete's white CS over all three basses mentioned.
Re: V63 vs C64
me,too,Dane. the early ones are supposed to be the most accurate ones,so i bet this one is realll nice.
JB---
my white 4000 is about to have some hipshot replacement tuners added to it. of course i will be keeping the original reverse nickel tuners in the case, along with the original bridge and tailpiece.

Re: V63 vs C64
I greatly preferred my V63 over the C64S I had.
No comparison in tone, the V63 was a very powerful, one might say ballsy tone over the more vintage tone of the C64.
It depends on what you are looking for.
The headstock used to be an issue to me visually, but when I was playing it, I really didn't even notice the headstock.
YMMV
IMHO

Re: V63 vs C64
yes, been eyeing that one, but it really needs to be FG for me. if I'm going to spend the cash, it's gotta be what I really want. seems a little high price wise as well....sloop_john_b wrote:Bob, there is a cool Jetglo '73 at Kebo's: http://www.kebosbassworks.com/index.php ... 60&catId=1

Re: V63 vs C64
I'd go for a V63, with a personal preference for an early '90's.
Re: V63 vs C64
eyeing a '93 right now. as much as I'd love to hunt for a year and find the right 4000, there is always a bit more of a gamble with the necks and truss rods on the old ones.
