My former '68 4000 had a HS.

What about the '68 4001S that had a horseshoe and everyone was saying it was the last factory shoe there was?

Awesome, educational and eye opening video, Mark!
Re: 1962 4001 "Missing Link" For Sale
adding also to the comments on the maxima strings, i had a set of pyramid flats on my 4000 set-neck,which was proving to be a bit too much for it. i managed to find a set of the old maxima's,and the difference in feel and sound was tremendous. in addition to what John and Tony have said about them,i would have to add that the maximas have a lively tonal brightness i haven't experienced with most other flats, except for maybe roto's ,and they don't roll around under your fingers like the ti's. (which always drove me crazy)
of course in the string changing interim,i also had the bass regretted,a deer antler nut and aluminum hipshot installed....
lol....spellcheck! oh no you din't!!
i did not have the bass regretted.....

Well here I am late again as usual...
Beautiful bass Tony!
Question, and I may have missed this...
Do you know it's history?
Reason I ask is, back in 1998, Mike Lull in Seattle had one.
For some reason I can not remember, he sold me it's original TRC as I was looking for a gold one...
I still have the TRC
The bass had the absolute thinnest neck I have ever played!

The 62 I played had the thinnest neck. It had a more D profile, than the C (both very shallow) that the 67s onward tend to have.opticnerve wrote:I have a '68 too...the '62s neck is a totally different animal boys.
The most elegant carve at the nut that just flows.
And a snappy square heel....

Cool, do you have any pics? The square heels look nicer IMO, as well.chefothefuture wrote:The 62 I played had the thinnest neck. I still can not remember why Mike Lull sold it's TRC to me....
Was a lovely Autumnglo too....

That TRC is probably worth something, I'd keep it though.Unfortunately, I did not take any at the time I saw it.

According to Chris, the seller was not forthcoming with details. I seriously doubt that it's the same bass that Mike Lull had.
My '62 has it's original TRC for sure. What are the chances, if this is the same bass with TRC missing, that the previous owner was able to source a vintage replacement? I would say the chances are (as Elvis Costello sang) less than zero...unless of course he found you!
Wow, what a shame that the Mike Lull bass is now missing it's TRC. Can you post a pic John? I'd love to see it & compare it to mine.

Well here's what that head stock is attached to...
It's been seen before...
And it's a replica I made to amuse myself one day.....
