A left-handed '82 4001S.
It has played 1000s of gigs, my most-played bass, second only to my Hofner.

As that pic is 3 years old and I still haven't cleaned the fingerboard, it might be time to do so. ;)
The (award-winning)Beatles tribute band I'm in began as a 4-piece in 1991, only playing the early tunes from their first few albums. When we got a keyboard player and began playing tunes from their entire career I bought the 4001S, and one night about 12 years ago, after a few Shiners, I got the paints out, did my version of McCartney's paintjob he did on his lefty 4001S.

Thats nice, I'm not a good painter, I could never do a job like that, I wouldn't clean the fretboard, the takes away the mojo.
My main bass right now is a hofner as well, they are awesome!

Thats nice! Send me a PM, and I'll take some pictures of my icon's mojo and send them to you. I pretty much learned everything on that bass, playing, style and maitenance. There are a lot of botched repairs, and recently I took scotch brite to the metal to dull it down a bit, its a players bass indeed, but I love that thing. :P

EDIT: What flats do you use? I use labella beatle bass flats that are 3 years old, the older they get, the thumpier they sound. I plan to keep them on for a long time, and when those break buy some tapewounds. I also have a peice of foam near the bridge to deaden it even more.

I use the LaBella "Beatle Bass" flats too, the 100 set. I change them in January and July, if I keep 'em on any longer than 6 months they've been played so much they start breaking.
