4003 Shadow inquiry

Post by lupien »

Hi all,

I'm new to the forum and after reading several threads I know this is the best place to get some help.

I have an opportunity to pick up a sweet Ric 4003 Shadow bass. I looked at several pictures and i'm (or was) confident that it was the real deal cause everything checked out. That is until the seller gave me the serial number which starts with YK.... (figure I wont put the serial number online since its not mine to do so)

So after looking at the Rickenbacker Register and reading everything I could find online I found that all shadow basses where made in 86' between Sept and Dec. and all serials start with ZJ,K,L. Shadow Register

Searching through the Ric serial decoder the YK serial provided says November 1985. Not sure what to think of this.... What do you Ric connaisseurs think about this?

Ive asked the seller to confirm YK is not infact ZK but no replies yet. Just want to find out as much as I can before I take a 2-3 hour ride to go see it in person.

Thank you.

Hey,

Well now I feel silly. Seller replied and it is ZK serial number.... Got all worked up for nothing.

Anyways, I should be picking her up tomorrow. Ill take some new pictures of my own to show you all and ill give the serial number so we can add this one to the regiter (which it is not)

Thanks,

I think it looks nice ! It that checker board binding on it ?

I'm guessing you also could change the P-guard and other HDWR to white / chrome if you wanted to also.
