I did not go into this thinking it was going to be the same. I wanted something different and what finer choice would than another Ric Product. I just didnt find it to my liking thats all.
I found myself in a store today and there happened to be 2 brand new 4003's. I grabbed one and just played it for a few minutes without it plugged in and it just felt right.

Great song.
Jeff, Hmm must be someone else, I never wear one!! Neither does my 4003!
On a serious note, my chromatic tuner said it was spot on before filming and I checked it when I saw your post. Still smack dab in the middle.
I did not want to do Hysteria again. I felt something across all 4 strings and low in the register would be better than in and around the 12th fret.

I happened to have my 4004L in my lap as I was noodling while reading posts; when you played the individual strings I just played along and found the G to be just warbling a bit against the G on my bass, all the others were in tune (something I was not necessarily expecting, really). Probably just something relating to the space-time continuum on youtube.Kopfjaeger wrote:...my chromatic tuner said it was spot on before filming and I checked it when I saw your post. Or perhaps your G string was out of tune. Were you wearing yours Jeff?jps wrote:I happened to have my 4004L in my lap as I was noodling while reading posts; when you played the individual strings I just played along and found the G to be just warbling a bit against the G on my bass, all the others were in tune (something I was not necessarily expecting, really). That's what I was going to say. If you don't like the 4004, you don't like them. Were you able to send it back because of the chips?jps wrote:All that matters is that you are happy with what you play.ricnbacker wrote:Jeffery, jps wrote:Don't expect a 4004 to sound like a 4001/3, they are different, but as Joey mentions above, treat it as a different bass with no preconceived ideas on how it is "supposed" to sound. Re: 4004L
I was able to send it back as "not satisfied" and also told him about the chips. I made it clear that it was not the chips that was the problem. if I kept it I would have addressed it, touched it up or whatever. things happen, that did bother me a bit though. either it left the factory like that or when the dealer got it and checked it out. no way of knowing.johnallg wrote: That's what I was going to say. I have had my 4003 for 11 years and theres no chips on it. some slight scratches that would probably come out if I buffed it or something but I dont care about that. its not a museum piece.
now that this is over, I got a chance to play with a little toy I bought the other day...a Mark Bass Super booster. this is quite the little tone monster. it seems to come on the Mark Bass amps but they sell those effects as a unit and its pretty cool.

Yo Sepp.......not sure if you mentioned it anywhere and I'm just to lazy to read back through the thread but do you typically keep the amp settings the same when switching between the 4004 and 4001/4003? They are certainly different animals and I found that I needed unique setting to bring out the best of each for my needs. Just curious.
