yeah the oxidization of the wires was why we used to protect our magnetics in an aerospace company I used to work for. Atomic oxygen and salt in the air are bad things for wires - no matter how tightly wound! Shielding was usually done by a case or shroud being grounded.

The coil wire just arrived from the United States!

I have purchased one spool(1/2 lbs.) of 42 AWG Plain Enamel Copper Wire.

That price was $42.00USD + shipping.

I am already going to winding a coil use with an electric hand drill like your guess.
At the beginning in this project I started, I thought that there was necessity which newly makes the foundation for fixing it with my own woodwork, but it is a little troublesome for me.
Then, I found the good thing with the ready-made Gizmo. - It is this.

If this is attached to the drill like this and set to a workbench, my coil winding machine will be completed.
This Gizmo is also likely to have useful for other D.I.Y. purpose.
However, I felt that something was still insufficient...
I forgot completely that the foundation for fixing a bobbin to this coil winding machine was required....I begin manufacture of that after this.

Re: Remaking The Horseshoe Bass Bobbin
Regarding reversed winding, if I remember correctly:
The only thing necessary for hum canceling is to reverse the winding - reversed related to the other (neck) pickup. It doesn’t actually have to be wound up in the opposite direction. To reverse the winding one can simply flip around which of the two wires coming out of the bobbin is hot and which is ground.
Reversing the winding will also reverse the phase of the signal, so the two pickups will then be out of phase with each other. This will not sound very good when both pickups are played together. Therefore, the polarity of the magnet is reversed to reverse the phase back again.
So, reversing the winding is for hum canceling, and reversing the polarity is to bring the pickups back in phase again after the winding have been reversed.
A simple test to check the polarity is to put the two pickups against each other top against top. If they attract each other like that then the polarity is in opposite directions (reverse polarity).
To check if the pickups are in phase with each other simply play with both pickups at full. If it sounds normal they are in phase, but if it sounds weak and as if something is not right then they are out of phase. If it doesn’t sound normal just flip around hot and ground coming out from the pickup to reverse the winding and bring them in phase.
From these two tests, if the polarity is reversed (1st test) and they are in phase and sound normal together(2nd test), then the pickups should be properly RWRP.
I think

It expressed diagrammatically following:jps wrote:I think Koji is trying to decide which way to wind the coil, CW or CCW as that could have an affect on the sound. Of course, it will sound different depending on which side of the equator one is on.

In my case, it becomes CASE-A.
Since it drew in a hurry, please point out, if wrong.

Re: Remaking The Horseshoe Bass Bobbin
The completion of manufacture of the bobbin mount base for the winding machine was carried out.

I made this from scrap wood. Attachment with a bobbin was carried out to using two of screws.

The paper stuck on this surface is a plan of my bobbin.
As you can seen here, it will understand how I fabricate the bobbin well. It is actually simple.
Isn't there any thing left behind any longer?
