TECH 21 VT/VT DELUXE ????

Post by ricken5er »

Is anyone using the Tech 21 VT pedal in their signal chain. I just ordered the Vt deluxe 2 channel model to run into my new Ampeg Portaflex (inspired by their old flip -tops.) This amp is awesome lots of power in a small package (mine's the 350 but they have a 500). You can "one-hand it" into a gig. I'm hoping this pedal will emulate the tones of my 69 b-15 that's to fragile and unable to compete w/ a loud drumkit and guitar combo. After years of playing through every pedal and a sore tongue from testing 9-volts, I've become a "Rickenbacker bass:guitarcord:amp=great tones " type of guy. What are your experiences with this Tech 21 pedal....???

I have the first generation VT Bass pedal & absolutely love it. It's an "always on" pedal for me. Fattens up my tone immensely....and sounds particularly good with Rickenbackers!
I have it set sort of between a fliptop & a classic SVT. I run mine through a Yorkville XS400 head & am very happy with my tone. I'm curious about the programmable one, but will probably stick with the first gen....

Cool, can you dial in any overdriven sounds, what are the range of tones? :)

I used to have one, and have some recording made with it using both of these basses. Great tone for Ricks.

The range of tones are pretty broad. (At least in an Ampeg frame of mind.) I went with the presets & just tweaked it from there. There are several "VT Bass Settings" threads over at TalkBass.com if you have the patience.
Here's one:

I've only used this for overdrive/distortion a few times. I have a Fender Sublime Bass fuzz pedal that is the cat's pajamas in my opinion, so after a long (& expensive) search, my bass distortion quest has ended. I use the VT Bass solely as a tone shaper/pre-amp, which I feel it was designed as. It excels at this.
That being said, if I actually had the newer programmable model I'm sure I could dial in some great overdrive. It truly is a fantastic little pedal.
Good luck.

I've had one for years and am primarily a guitar player, but whenever I plug that thing in(with a bass), it sounds great. From a nice Motown to rock to even distorted Motorhead type stuff, this thing kills. Had a bunch of other stuff, and still have this. It slammed with the 4003AFG with the toaster in the neck I used to own.

#1, to what they said. I have had the vt pedal for about 2 years now, using with my markbass cmd121p combo,i get great tone with all my basses.( which are all passive) . I primarily set it for the "fliptop" setting, and it does a good job of sounding like my Ampeg sb12, (only with 500 watts instead of 40),so that's great for me! :D

I've been going back and forth between deciding whether I want to buy the VT or VT Deluxe as a replacement for my Tech 21 Sansamp BDDI. Is the deluxe model really worth the extra $100? More important, I'm not sure if it would fit on my pedalboard. The Sansamp BDDI is a great sounding pedal except if you're playing a fretless bass (kills the mwah) or you want the full growl out of a bridge pickup of any bass guitar.
JETGLO should officially be renamed JETGLO ROCKS! :-)

Jeff, the basses are pretty, but could you post the recordings? Always wanted to hear what these pedals can really do.

I've been reading alot of good things about the Tech 21 Oxford. Does anyone have any reviews about how it works with bass?
