ANYONE WITH A 4001 WHITE W/BT...
i would like to offer to anyone with said white 4001 with black trim, if they would like to ship it to me here in buffalo, i would take a pic of it next to rick james monument that has a tribute to his white 4001 etched on it. of course this would be prepaid to and from buffalo, hopefully insured. i would then email your pic to you unless you want a glossy pic then it would be an xtra 5 or 10 bucks for an 8x10 which would be shipped back with the bass. offer is out there to anyone interested. i would be honored to perform this task for any member.

Rick had a band with Neil Young on Motown records, the Mynah Birds. They only did one single but it's killer! Rick was a draft dodger, Neil played guitar and sang backup. Rick was arrested and had to leave Canada.
Great Ramp In My Opinion.

It's just white, not BT. Black body binding and pickguard/TRC were standard on white 4001's, but fretboard binding was white and the hardware was chrome.

the black hardware one was called a tuxedo, was it not ?
Re: ANYONE WITH A 4001 WHITE W/BT...
Ron, the Tuxedo was a limited edition bass...yes it had all black hardware but, painted neck (maple I believe) and came with COA
Re: ANYONE WITH A 4001 WHITE W/BT...
The 4003SPC "Tuxedo" was a limited edition (120?) bass. White enameled fretboard and no binding.
This is a 4003 White/BT:

Right. Rick James' had a White 4001 which had black body binding but white neck binding, black pickguard and TRC, and chrome hardware (standard). Most White 4003 had black body AND black neck binding, going along with blackened hardware and plasticware.
The Tuxedo is a whole different animal, a 4003S (no binding) with a maple fingerboard and an overall White finish (including the fingerboard). "Tuxedo" however has become generic for a white Rick bass.
Here's what a Tuxedo (or a Redneck or Blackstar) looks like with the paint stripped off:
