Lollar Toasters ??

I've got a set of Lollar toaster style pickups in a custom made 4005 inspired 8 string. I think they sound awesome but don't really have a basis for compairison. Has anyone used these as replacements? Other opinions on the Lollar toaster? Considering another pair for future 4001 project

Ps I don't know nothin bout no lollar toasters,but in general,he makes fine pickups.

Lollar is a great guy, all his pickups sound great that I've used. Toaster's aren't rocket science, it's no surprise that his would sound good. He knows a lot about Ric's from the times I've spoken to him.

As a newbie to the forum and a fellow Canadian - (Hello from Hamilton!) - I am going to suggest delicately that the RRF is not the place to discuss a custom built Rickenbacker copy...

There are numerous threads here about "Intellectual property infringement" if you want to see what I mean...

Even the fact that the 4005 is rare and hasn't been made since the early 80s is not going to get you any consideration for having built a copy - a dear friend had the same grief over the discussion of a 320/350 styled bass - an instrument that RIC never produced...

There are many places on the net where you will get positive feedback over your bass - a forum dedicated to the real thing is not the place to do that...

Do yourself a favour and delete the posts that reference a copy - but the basic question is a copy (either of toasters or of 4005's) as good as the real thing - round here the answer is a resounding NO...

I'll admit I considered the things in my search for toasters to possibly put in my 320.
Decided against it because I could find barely any testimonials for the things anywhere. Definitely no demonstrations to speak of. And the money I'd save wasn't nearly significant enough to warrant buying a mystery pickup that might sound absolutely nothing like a toaster.

The final factor was that the hi-gains in my 320 sound nice anyway.

Copy? This is a copy? I have to say it has me fooled as far as that goes.

I had a pair for a while, they sound better than fine but the magnets are supercharged which some like and some don't. Like it was said Toasters aren't rocket science... but Lollar's are RWRP which is why I got them. Dave Mustaine's guitar tech, and all around cool guy, Willie Gee bought them from me a month ago when they came through town along with some Barts.

Doesn't look like a toaster copy to me. Maybe closer to the 4002 pu's.
