Fretless?

Does Ric make fretless basses anymore? If not, any plans for the future?

Hey Tom - the 4003FL is currently "on hiatus." Not cancelled, but no current plans for re-introduction into the production catalog. If you want a FL, you can find the occasional 4003FL and slightly less occasional 4001FL on ebay. Sellers seem to think that the rarity of this variant commands a higher price. My opinion is that the "rarity" is less important than the demand, which is not very big.

So, you may need to overpay a bit for one. They are quite slinky and produce some big ole roundy beefy tones; something you can't get from any other FL bass, and I've played a few dozen FLs in my day.
Can we have everything louder than everything else?
