Thanks for the update - yes that is incredibly cool. It also explains what I was hearing last weekend: bridge + middle pickup on max. If I knew that, I could have backed off the middle PU vol to get a "brighter" tone. Just imagine how many tone options are at your fingertips! What a great guitar.

Bridge and middle pickup (on any three pickup guitar) it an interesting, quacky tone, but to really get that Byrds chime, there needs to be more bridge pickup than anything else. For me, the ideal "Jake's Byrd tone" on a McGuinn would be: Bridge pickup, 100%, Neck pickup 50%, middle pickup 40%

With a two pickup, it involves the blend knob being about 50% on...but that's another story.

I tend to agree with Jake, with perhaps slightly less volume on middle pickup.

Also, I don't know if anyone has mentioned this, but the McGuinn compressor has an adjustment pot right on the circuit board. It's a small recessed, slotted screw.
Turn clockwise to increase overall compression effect.

It's also important to have a fresh 9 volt battery for optimal compressor function.......a lithium 9v will last much longer as the compressor eats up the battery charge very quickly.

I haven't gone back to check, but there was a post a few weeks ago from someone on the RRF who saw the same guitar. The price was really too high in my opinion. Are you interested?

Hi,

I dropped by Sam Ash in NYC this afternoon and the 370/12RM is still there (same price $6,999)! They actually moved it to the front of the store when you walk in (it's on your left). So if anyone is interested in trying it out and you are in the NYC area, you're in luck.
