Symfonia Grand 420

Post by mckuen »

Hi ,

i bought a 1962 Symfonia Grand /Rickenbacker 420 from Ebay in February. The guitar needs a little restauration . I hope i can send some pictures soon. The turquise sunburst paled by UV- light but underneath the trusrod cover and the tuners i can see the original turquis blue of the color. It´s the most interesting and beautifull rickenbacker color i´ve seen so far . Very different from the well known blueburst shade. If rickenbacker would make a guitar with that coulor today it would be a hit!

As told by Mr.Hall there were only 50 guitars produced in April 1962. It makes that guitar a realy rare bird ; -)

i really like to knoe more about the reason wy rickenbacker sold guitars under a differnet brand name like ryde , electro , s.g. and so on ..

We were wondering who got it, congrats. Cool color and welcome to the RRF Thomas!

H Thomas,

I have a couple of them. One needs a complete restoration and the other is pretty nice. Dave, from Dave's Guitars has one in his collection. Mark Benson from the Beatles tribute band "1964" told me that he used to own one. I know of one more that may be in Alabama. I was lucky enough to find an original Symfonia Grand badged amp too.

hi jwilli,

thats great to hear . i ´m coming to the end of the restauration. i was able to save the beaten up original finish. i wasn´t shure if that would be possible when i bought it on ebay! It cost me some hours of my weekend to polish the silver overspray off. i need one strap pin and a black orinal nut that i will buy from an egnlish onlineshop . it´s still difficult to buy rickenbacker spare parts in germany!

í think i´ve seen photos of your s.g.´s on the forum.one stripped and without finish and the other is the already registered BD 39 . Am i right? the serial number of mine is BD 36.

hi,

here are some pictures of the my Symfonia Grand. I haven´t finished in restauring it and there is still a little work to do , like adding a original nut and the upper pin.
there are also still traces from the silver overspray that i will polish off.

i have strung that old girl and it and it rocks on......!
