oh, i KNOW i want the vox/janglebox set-up badddd.. but.. seeing as buying the guitar is gonna put me out for awhile, it's just gonna have to wait.

2 hours til i am holding a ric in my hands!! i will take some pics on my phone for you guys. such a great help you are!

i hope it's great in person. i am sure the seller is a nice person, but if they aren't into what they got, then maybe it's just not for them! i think i'm gonna put the stand for it next to my bed so it's the first thing i see in the morning. i'm sick.

Ah, there's nothing to worry about. It's not a talent contest or anything like that. Just a bunch of people who like Ricks, music, and talking about the same. You don't have to play or even bring an instrument. And remember, none of us were experts to begin with, and many of us can't make that claim even today...

Don't worry about having the perfect amp, what you have will work fine. It's all a road, and as you travel down it, you find things you want and eventually save up the money to get 'em. Just keep the dreams in mind and you'll eventually figure out how to accomplish them...

wow, i had been in HA music years ago to taste basses and don't remember seeing them, but i doubt they'd be out on the floor. guitar shops kinda give me the willies, they make me nervous, haha.

well, depending on if i buy this guitar, i'll come to the party! i'm imagining like 14 guys playing 8 miles high..that's 28 strings of chiming glory!!! i'll go post on the thread. i imagine i'll want lots of tips on my 12 string. i think my guitar teachers eyes are gonna bug right out of his head if i show up with this on wednesday! we were playing tons of tom petty at the last one.

thanks for the encouragement. something i enjoy about rick culture is that everyone seems real laid back, welcoming and just love their guitars.. it's not elitist and it's not about being the most rock and roll badass shredder. the 60s force is strong with these ones.

Hey, come even if you don't end up buying the guitar. You'll get to see and probably try out a number of Ricks there that you might not even be able to find in a store. Plus, you can always ask more questions in person than over the internet...

Jessica, whether you get this particular Ric or not, you should join in the Confluence ! You're in the Forum now.

Speaking of Eight Miles High jams with lots of Ric twelve strings.... check out this video posted by Melibee, an RRFer from Minneapolis. She and her husband came out to visit and joined-in one of our Southern Calif Ric Jams .. this Mini Confluence was in May of 2010.

Playing Ric twelve strings for this jam we had the Byrds Collective band with Dave and Mark on 12ers (Pat was playing his 4001 V63 Bass); and additonal RRFers sitting in with the Byrds Collective were Skip, Steve, Collin and me. So six twelvers and probably four Jangleboxes .... and Collin's was a 70's era Lightshow model. Enough chime for you ?

Actually, even a small solid-state practice amp can make a Rickenbacker sing, so don't lose hope just yet!

Good luck with checking the guitar out. We may need to discuss what RAS is after that visit ...

whew, hey everyone!

well, as of 11 am tomorrow morning (gotta go to the bank to get that amount of cash-oof) i should be the owner of a LOVELY rickenbacker!!

my god, the color was so stunning in person i felt person. and hearing those streams chime was like meeting a hero

the 12 strings were definitely a change, but i loved that thin neck.

as predicted, i looked up the serial # and the guitar is from 1983, just like me! my offer of $1800 was accepted. i think i got a deal here!

i guess i should take it somewhere for a setup? the guy said it'd just been sitting in a case for years. he said he wasn't interested enough in that sound and just not tuned into rick mojo. at least i got to explain to him why the "2nd jack" didn't work the way he thought he would!

gonna post some pics after i get em uploaded.

I'd say you got a very good deal.

Our own Paul W (jingle_jangle) is here in the Bay Area. You can't do better for a good diagnostic and setup.
