I was curious about these too. I want to try tapewounds ona non-Rick fretless I hope to acquire in the future, and I'm down to these or La Bellas. Want that upright simulation.

As much as I am a fan of D'Addario strings, I have not tried these yet. Maybe they would be good to try someday on my 4003FL.

Tapewounds vary so much between brands. The ones Chris Brubeck uses, the Rotos, have a completely different feel and sound than the Fenders for instance. Based on the description these seem like they'd be similar to the Rotos but I'd have to try them to be sure.

My only tapewound experience is the Roto set. I have it on my fake Hofner. I do like that set. A fellow bassist thought that particular combination of bass and strings had a good upright sound, but not quite same because the bass is fretted.

I lean toward the La Bella set in the future because I've become hooked on balanced sets.

I have just ordered a set from Evil Bay, they should arrive next week.
They will be going on my Lakeland Skyline Decade first, then I might try them on my 4003.

My D'Addario Nylon Tapewound ETB92 strings arrived today, I have put them on my LS Decade & played them for about an hour, I like 'em. Even on the treble pup with the tone wide open, the tone isn't harsh.
Much lower tension than the previous strings which is great if you like bending strings sometimes, or alot, like me.
I had to loosen the truss rod a little & raised the action to compensate. They are actually a little brighter sounding than I had expected, but when I'm playing with my band with 2 gtr players they should blend in nicely.
The one thing I don't like is the blue silk winds, not sure if that is standard or not. On the other-hand, black strings over black pick guard & black pups: Supercool

I have a set on a mid-60s EB-2. I love them; that simple. I've owned the bass since 1981 and, honestly, I feel these strings have helped the bass find her voice. I used heavy D'Ad rounds for several years during the `90s and they were pretty good. With the rounds, it was more a matter of affordability and availability. This is the first set of D'Ad Nylon Tapewounds I've tried. While I can't comment re: consistency across flat sets, with 30 plus years bass playing experience I can offer this: My experience with a set of D'Addario Nylon Tapewound ETB92 is positive. Very decent price, too.

By comparison, I have a set of Pyramid flats on a Japanese Fender Jag bass. They are really nice, too, but have a tension I'd never let near my old girl Gibby. On a solid body, the Pyramids are great, but costly. They deliver a wonderfully creamy tone, but I will try a set of the D'Ad flats on the Jag when the Pyramids are spent.

I haven't tried the D'Addarios, but I have GHS tapewounds on my (non-Rick) fretless and love them. They're fairly low tension, had to loosen the truss rod and tweak the bridge a bit.

I tried them (I kid you not!) because I had a dream about them. I thought I was wasting money on a silly whim and I'd find them dark and toneless, but quite the opposite. Not bright like a roundwound, but there's some appealing crispness to them.
