Has anyone tried to put the 5 knob wiring harness on a 4001/4003? I am thinking about what the blend knob might do for the bass not just the 330/360 guitars...I have tried a dbl neck and it comes with a blend knob and it sounded kinda cool on the bass. Thoughts?

That is not a bad Idea at all really. There was only one production Rick bass that had this (as far as I can remember anyway) the 4080. The tonal possibilities are much wider when the blend control is added. The circuit diagrams are availalble from RIC. This one would do.

I have seen one or two but I am talking about the 4001/4003. That would be different and might give a little more flexibility with the sounds?

I'd go with a master volume rather than a blend.

Or make it a TRUE blend and not just a redundant neck volume knob.

I agree that it is redundant; it is basically just a volume control in series with the bass volume control that does not have the third lug grounded to completely cut off the signal.

I agree that the fifth knob is useless having had them on both a 360V64 and a 610. If it is not full up it can mess you up. It does no more than just using the volume controls and it only affects the front pickup. If you want a blend why not put one in place of the pickup selector to see if you like it before adding a hole? IMHO

ON both of my guitars I just leave it set full neck.So every time I try a rick guitar in a store I always forget about the 5th knob. . takes me about 2 minutes before . . . "Oh yeah. . .this thing DOES have some bottom end"

I never noticed that before. You are right Jeff. It is not wired to be a true blend.

This is just a pondering. Ken, good idea though to remove the toggle switch. I have noticed on the guitars that they have both and it seems a little redundant.

IMO a TRUE blend could actually be fairly useful. Leave both pickups' individual volumes on full. . . and tweak the mix with the blend. Then, you can flip up or down to get either pickup soloed at full volume.

You could wire a blend pot with a master volume. The two individual volumes could prove to be a hindrance.
