 ...seems like the bridge-PU-surround has been replaced!? The hump-pick guard is authentic though :( . I miss the Alan-screw pole pieces!?
Nice fretboard colour! :D

 ...the 1999 already had the "dented" bridge-PU surround, pretty sure. However, I might be wrong with the pole pieces? But at RIC all "transitions" are possible

Don't know about '99, but my '98 have been with me since I bought it new in 1999. I'm probably biased as I learned to play bass on it (as opposed to being a guitarist playing bass notes), but even with more ricks in the house, I play it a lot. Not the slimmest neck, but I don't mind some wood to hold on to.

well i have her here now and she is amazing sounding bass, the tone is just incredible, my fireglo pales in comparison to this beast, the bezel looks original to me i have fitted the pick up cover, cant get over the sound of this bass, neck feels great, as soon as i put the bass on i felt at home with it, still amazes me how different sounding these basses can be, this one has the geddy lee thing going on. just love it!!!! cheers guys

Congrats....that is a pretty pair. I purchased a new JG 4003 in 1999 but I took it back with in a few days and traded it in for a F#$%^r Jazz out of the foolish belief that if I had one bass it needed to be an Eff bass. I have regretted that decision for many years now. Congrats again on a really nice find.

hi scott thanks very much, this new jg reminds me so much of my fav 4001 way back from 1976, wish i had never sold that bass either i bought it for £250 in 1981, this new jg is just as awesome the tone is just oozing from this bass , and it just felt great from the moment i put her on, sounds so different from the fireglo, well i think 13 years helps, it was in storage the last few years, glad i can get the beast out and play it!!! my fingers are raw from playing lol. thanks again. cheers george
