Well, it's not like I had competition. There are books on Rickenbacker and Rickenbacker guitars and some books with Rick basses in them, but this will be the only one with JUST Rick basses.
I've received some great pictures recently. Eddie Hoffer has sent a great set of photos of his ultra-rare 4005/6 Fireglo to replace the anonymous snapshots I've been using as placeholders in the 4005 chapter.
Peter Levett has provided me with studio-quality shots of four uber-rare lefties: 4005 Mapleglo, 21-fret 4001, 4001C64S, and a one-off short-scale 4003S. Again, all these are lefties, so you can imagine where they would sit on rarity charts.
I'm also about to get a copy of a studio shot of John Entwistle's 4001 potato-head eight-string from the folks who photographed it for "Bass Culture."
And I finally got a great action shot of a young bassist (Marlon Deppen) from Seattle's "Alabaster" using a Red/BT early 4003.
I've just purchased the InDesign software for me to make compatible layout files for the publisher, and will begin the conversion of the already-built sections of the book shortly. I still have to write and design several major chapters and digest Ted Staberow's "Anatomy" series into concise form to fit the book.
Film at eleven.

Thanks, Brian. I appreciate your offer. I used it a little at Kalmbach Publishing Co. before I retired, but as an editor, I was allowed to use the "InCopy" functions only; the art department was to use only the "InDesign" functions. It was an awkward situation. Now I have my own software package and won't have that restriction. I will be getting assistance from a friend who is a graphic designer (she designed the cover and the timeline/family tree poster) and she uses InDesign all the time. Once we set up a group of template pages and I get a few lessons from her, I should be able to roll pretty quickly. I used to use Quark Express with ease and enjoyed its functions. But InDesign now appears to be the industry standard, so resistance is futile.

I don't yet know Hal-Leonard/BackBeat Books publishing schedule. My deadline to them is 1 December print ready. I would assume they have a schedule, but they haven't told me about it. I would bet the book would be published in spring 2013 and available to all at that time. But don't hold me to it, I know only what I have to do.
I am in the process of installing the InDesign software right now. Huge. Takes about a half hour to install on my OS X 10.6 iMac !
