That's why I don't post here from my iPhone.... too many auto correct errors and just bad typing.
Re: FS: 1968 4001 MG *** April Fool Over ***
Just to follow up - that bass is no longer for sale. So Mr. Cabibe, you can mark this thread as 'SOLD' or 'JOKE OVER' or what have you.walker wrote:For what it's worth, however, and all April Fooling aside, a friend of mine has decided to sell his '68 4001 MG which is basically just like mine. I'll post a link to his add once he speaks for himself, so watch this space!

Oh... uh...
Nice!
I have NO idea what to do with those skinny stringed things... I'm just a bass player...
Re: FS: 1968 4001 MG
Yeah, that looks great John...!! Details...!!!
Re: FS: 1968 4001 MG
Nice grab, Fay! Welcome to The '68 MG Club! (if such a thing even exists)
Looks like it's in relatively pristine condition - not much yellowing of the finish. Must have been well-cared for. I see you've got the unpainted green bobbin, too. Is yours also a July serial?

Re: FS: 1968 4001 MG
Thanks all:-)
It's an August SN.
Very clean though it does have some things that
raise questions. Nothing that turned me away (obviously!)
but some odd things.
Extra screw holes under the TP for what looks like a Badass but
no foot print or any marking for a different TP.
The bridge saddles were cut for a lefty ( so it seems)
as the slot sizes and screw heads are oriented that way...
The TRC was an early 70s plexi, but I happened to have a correct
late 68 one...
Almost no fret ware and it came strung with some very old
Maximas. Wish I had a fresh set so TIs will have to do.
Add to that what looks to be factory ROS!?
If only these things could talk! LOL!
Neck is thin thin thin

Cool! Mine's a July. I confess I'm a little rusty on all my Acronyms - ROS?
Does it look like the saddles will work for you if you flip them backwards?

Re: FS: 1968 4001 MG
ROS= Rick-O-Sound
Moving the saddles is only part of what's needed as the slots
aren't in the dead center.
They also need to be filed on the undersides so that they
seat correctly on the main bridge.
All done at this time and playing quite well.
Next question is-
TI's or Optimas! LOL!

Re: FS: 1968 4001 MG
Congrats John. Love that MG finish. Looks very clean, and this could be the earliest ROS on a 4001 that I can recall. Mid '69 is usually when they first crop up. Is the wiring stock?
