Found a RIC bass for $500.00

Post by bugman »

I usually hit garage sales to pick up a guitar or amp or drums to sell for a quick profit either to the local Musicgoround or by craigslist and came upon a keeper this last week. The first thing the gal at the sale shows me is a Fireglo RIC bass. It was a 4003 from 2001 and was in like new shape minus needing the switch cover on the toggle switch and a new set of strings. She wanted $500.00 and said her dad had died and he used to play in a country band.. There was also a Martin acoustic with hardcase,USA Fender strat with hardcase,59 Bassman reissue,Fender twin reverb(minus speakers, and a Peavey cab.. The RIC was cheap but the rest wasn't priced low like the bass. Bought the RIC,had new strings put on yesterday ,and placed an order for the switch tip with Chris at Pick of the RICs and am happy to have a RIC again. The last time I bought something from Pick of the RICS was a RIC C64S that I really wish I had held onto. I almost didn't hit that garage sale. Sure glad I did!

Excellent score, congrats! I keep wishing I'd come across a 4002 for cheap at a garage sale.

That is cool. Finding things like that at a garage sale anymore is rare.

Geoffrey congratulations on the 4003. A terrific deal. It is wonderful that the bass went to someone who appreciates it.
Life, as with music, often requires one to let go of the melody and listen to the rhythm

Good to know that the $500.00 RIC is stil out there. I've picked up a 610/12 JG and a 4003 JG for $500.00 on Ebay, and a 620 MID for $570.00 on Ebay.

3-4 years ago. I always kept Ebay minimized on my monitor at work so I could check throughout the day for deals. They don't last long. I once picked up an early 4000 series aluminum tailpiece for $50.00. It was a raw unit that hadn't been finished, so I had to spend a couple hours working on it with files and a Dremmel, followed by a trip to the plater.
