its a great amp but at 100 watts its just keeps up with a Marshall halfstack and a hard hitting drummer. its good enough, but I cant spep on the gas and push it into overdrive...know what I mean?

Of all the amps I have tried recently the Fender Rumble and the MB 102P are the only 2 that I have really really liked. I even tried the Ampeg PF500 and wasnt wow'ed

so I am weighing my options---- Fender rumble 350 2X10 350 watts and some useful controls on the front, I plug the super booster into it and I got power and the filters of the MB for $500 or the MB 2X10 300 watts at $1150 and the I feel the only benefit is the size, weight and that I can line out to another cab for 500W total...that I dont have a use for and dont see happening
I know what you mean about headroom! I had my Trace/Peavey stack just to keep up with our guitarist's Mesa Boogie (MkIV IIRC), before the Peavey cabs I had Trace Elliot 4X10 & 1X15 but kept damaging the speakers trying to keep up with him! (We were a 3 piece power blues/rock trio).

I would think you're right, you know your situation better than anyone else, from what you've said the Fender Rumble sounds the most sensible option - you can always trade up if things change, but I know how hard it can be to trade down :(

lol, I just posted a reply in another amp thread basically word for word of my original post here plus some other gibberish.

I took my bass to a local store and tried the Rumble...I was seriously disappointed. So I bought a Mark Bass 1X15 Jeff Berlin model.

<<<below is copy and past of what I wrote in the other thread>>>>>>>>>>

I have had it for 2 weeks and was starting to think it wasnt a good match for my Ric. It sounds great, good sound, loud as hell and easy to move around and its just a little bigger than the Ampeg.

I really wanted to try an Ashdown amp before buying the Mark bass. no one around me for 100 miles in any direction has any of this brand.I wanted to try the MAG115C-300 which according to the sales rep I spoke to was built in China and mentioned the higher end line, the ABM, hand wired in England. I looked at the ABM C115H-500 EVO III and it seems interesting.

I am not un happy with the Mark Bass amp. I am finding sounds that I am happy with and in general its a very well built amp.The Steinberger sounds terrific through it. but the Ric is not wow'ing me just yet. is it that I played the Ampeg for so long that I am just so used to its sound that it seems its not a good match?

so, with all that blabber

do any of you have experience with an Ashdown Combo? how are they, whats their story? I dont hear or read people talking about them very often or at all for that matter.

Hmm, I've no real personal experience of Ashdown aside from a bass playing friend had an Ashdown MAG C210T 300 Combo, it was really badly unreliable - I really felt for him as whilst playing mid gig the amp just died with no warning and no apparent symptoms of failure - one minute it sounded ok the next nothing!? It was repaired and then seemed never really quite the same. He replaced it soon after with a Genz Benz Shuttle 6 with a 2x10 cab.

Shame the MB isn't doing it for you? With my MB I did find I had to roll off a fair amount of the low/low mid EQ off, IIRC the low/low mids are set around 9.30 - 10 o'clock and I've got the mid high and high slightly boosted to around 1 & 2 o'clock respectively, I can't remember how I set the filters though - gigging this weekend will have a look and make mental note.

maybe I mis spoke or used the wrong words but I do like the amp. got great sound with the Steinberger which I have been playing more lately. I just havent found that ideal tone that just seemed to be "right there" with the Ampeg.

I havent even been able to flex its muscle yet as it it too powerful for my house :D . as soon as it dries up I am taking out on the deck and letter it rip.

as far as your friends experience with the Ashdown, that sucks. its also the wired in China amp so maybe thats a tell tale sign. thats basically the same amp I was looking at except I wanted the 1X15. The ABM has a few more features and supposedly wire in England....500 bucks for the MAG $1049 for the ABM.... :?
its a shame I cant get to check one out locally. but maybe there is a reason I dont see them or hear people talk about them

the settings I used after I posted earlier was bass flat, treble 1o'clock, high mid 10, low mid 9. got what was my normal Ric sound out of it. so I am happy with that.

I set the filters at full for the VPF and 12 for the VLE....I wonder if I plugged the super booster into the amp what that will do??? Ill check that out tonight.

part of the reason I bought the amp was having the filters onboard rather than having a stomp box. I like simple...plug and play.

thanks for the replies
