Re: Do I need to adjust my neck?
Scott,
Buy it, if it does not work (too thick) send it to me and I'll mod it for you and ship it back. No need to buy all sorts of tools if you really don't need to.
I'm serious.

Re: Do I need to adjust my neck?
I use a magnetic screwdrive that has a very thin wall end. I have never had an issue with it being too thick. I use this as a screwdriver more than a truss rod tool. It is a bit pricey though: http://buy1.snapon.com/catalog/item.asp ... ir=catalog

Re: Do I need to adjust my neck?
Scott,
No problem. It's no big deal, it will take me 5 minutes to do. Just being a good forumite and giving back a little since I've learned so much here. The only thing it will cost you is postage back to you.

Re: Do I need to adjust my neck?
Let me add that with what you described on the G and D strings, I would only turn the truss rod nut on that side and at that only one facet of the hex faced nut before doing ANYTHING else, especially with the bridge. Time for that later if needed. You just might need to turn the nut further, but I'd start with that one facet face turn and then play it and see if more is needed. It sounds to me like you have a tad of back bow that is making the strings hit the frets in those few spots.

The JETGLO finish name should be officially changed to JETGLO ROCKS!

Re: Do I need to adjust my neck?
Thank you all.... I really appreciate all of the help and advice and the kind offers. I have been around the internet bass boards for well over a decade and this is by far the coolest little community of friendly and helpful folks. I will order that tool and take it from there. I can actually keep the frets from buzzing by easing my attack a little. But it needs to adjusted, but I am sure it is a minor adjustment. i will certainly heed the great advice I have gotten here....thanks again to all of you guys.

Since I recently got back on the Rickenbacker bandwagon, I feel like a newbie, but in which direction do you tighten / loosen the nuts to correct a small dip at around the 12th fret?

OK, should I TIGHTEN THEM...Or Loosen them?
Right now they are just snug to the point where they don't turn with fingers. I'm so close to getting it where I want it but these truss rods just freak me out. Afraid to mess with em.

Are they new or old style rods?atomic_punk wrote:OK, should I TIGHTEN THEM...Or Loosen them?Right now they are just snug to the point where they don't turn with fingers. I'm so close to getting it where I want it but these truss rods just freak me out. Afraid to mess with em.

Re: Do I need to adjust my neck?
It's a 2008 4003JG. New Style. I knew all the tricks of the old style since that's what I had for so long. I went to Rickenbacker's site and got the info I needed.
I would have gone to Joey's site but it's down. (Sadness)

Re: Do I need to adjust my neck?
ok, got the Xcellite tool in today..... with Rics do you loosen the strings for minor tweaks like these?
Re: Do I need to adjust my neck?
Nope, remove the TRC, put the strap on the bass, hang it how you play it, and make the neck flat by tightening/loosening as needed.
Re: Do I need to adjust my neck?
not a chance....the thing wont even remotely fit in there..... unreal.......
