Just bought this 1973 Maple with checkerboard binding. Sounds amazing!

Welcome. MG stands for Mapleglo, the "color" of your 4001. For a full rundown of colors, see here:

great score ! looks like the april '73 i let go with a badarse bridge but i put walnut headwings on mine. enjoy it ! what's the two letters on your jackplate ?

ME on the jackplate, making it May '73. I'm considering putting a period correct Rick bridge back on, but I love how this sounds so much I might just leave it as is.
