UK Pearl White Specials

Post by SoundAffectsMusic »

Well they have finally arrived – our “Pearl White Specials”. These were something we started to talk to Rosetti about in the latter part of 2011. The spec changed over time, and quite frankly got better and better. We are delighted with the final outcome and I’m sure the lucky owners will be too (yes all pre-sold I’m afraid).

Have posted lots of pictures on our Facebook page – check ‘em out:

21 frets and an 'F' hole? Those look incredible.

Tim, the headstock shape (a 12-string size, but unslotted) and mismatched pickguards seem to be generating a lot of chatter on the net. Any comment on those issues?

You've directed this to Tim, Jason, but as I've actually bought one, I'll give you my comment as a customer direct.

I'm delighted with the guitar.....no ifs, no buts, just delighted. While of course it's not an exact clone of a Rose Morris 1997 painted White, I have no problem with that. We're in 2012 not 1967 and this is a one-off limited edition of 10 guitars, not a new vintage reissue series. The C63/12 headstock looks fine to my eye and for any owner that doesn't like the plastic the way it is, its a $40 swap out. I'll say it again, I'm delighted the factory went the extra mile to do this for the UK market, and I await with interest any future LE's that may come our way...you won't be hearing any complaints from this happy customer. :D

Thanks for chiming in with that, Eddie. I have heard new holes would have to be drilled to get the right pickguards to fit. What do you think of that? (Still would love to hear Tim reply too)

Couple of points here Jason. First, Tim at Sound Affects (who BTW has been an absolute gentleman to deal with) made it clear to me this week that if there was anything about the final spec of the guitar that I was unhappy with, then I did not have to go ahead with the purchase. As you can see from my pictures and comments I was more than pleased to give this guitar a home exactly the way it is....

The other observation I have is that if the original prototype had been manufactured to the exact same spec as the finished guitar, I would still have had no hesitation in placing my deposit. In fact, the guitar spec as it has actually ended up (i.e. f-hole, 21 fret, C63 neck) for me personally is massively superior when compared to the prototype guitar (i.e. slash hole, 24 fret, standard 330 neck). Now others who put down a deposit may have a different view; if so, I'm sure they'll speak up if they are RRF members.

On the specifics of the pickguards, you are right that the shape/screwhole positions are not the same as a standard '60's spec 330/1997. However, if you wanted to put exact replica shaped '60's style Rose Morris 1997 guards on it would be simple enough to do that and just use the existing screw hole positions (they are not very far out versus an original hole spacing and I think would look just fine....believe me, I've already checked ) .

I prefer the three pickup style upper guard-even on two pickup models; I've modded a couple of my Ricks with this look-very clean; I sometimes wonder why RIC didn't save itself the troule back in the day and just use the three-p/up guard; the company would only have to manufacture one part.
There is no reason to ever be bored.

...why yes, I suppose I do have a double bound guitar fetish...

"Uh, I like the double bounds. . . ."

I wonder why a different f-hole shape was used on these.

This style is also on the two new guitars made for Tom Petty and the recent Ruby "one-off" sold on eBay.

The Pearl White Specials are exquisite and breathtaking. Moving ahead to the past if you will. This limited run by RIC that provides for a fresh look while borrowing from their rich historical palette. It is so fitting that this White Knight would find it's way to the UK. How about the 1066 model? :)
Life, as with music, often requires one to let go of the melody and listen to the rhythm
