I prefer growl in my flats instead of just thump, so I use the Fender 9050CL set. It has gauges that are closer to RIC gauges: 45-60-80-105. They are the strings that converted me from a 30+ year roundwound player.

Interesting... So, in comparison to roundwounds, can you comment on how they might compare to Rotosound Swingbass 66 strings?

Hmm, interesting +1. I'm not keen on change so I doubt I'll be running out to buy another manufacturers strings, let alone going from round wound to flats. Especially since I'm thrilled with my current round wound string maker, Circle K.

Perhaps it is just that I've always had round wounds and I like the feel as well as the sound. Now If I owned a fretless, I'd most likely be looking for a flat that offered the growl of rounds.

I've been finding that the TI JF344s are a lot more metallic sounding these days....
They have a nice low tension as well.

Though I also really like the Optima 4099s. They feel like "new" Maximas, but sound very deep with very little ring. New strings that sound old LOL!

They have it all: mellow when you want it to be, growly when you need it to be, completely consistent up the neck and from string-to-string, last forever, and economical to purchase. The set was developed by Fender R&D after much input from guys over on TalkBass, including all of us who own Rick basses who bugged the distributor for single 105's to go with the 45-100 set until he gave in.

nice, I think i might get these strings and try them out, i do like thump, but a set that can do that and also have the growl got me curious to try. A versatile set is always better, i remember trying Pyramids and i did like them at first but after a bit it was just too much thump for my taste.
